Nephew/Brother (NB),
I was arrested by your challenge for us not to measure our spiritual progress by our apparent physical blessing. Noah was a pretty good ship builder but a poor preacher by today's standards. He gave, by some estimates, a 120 year invitation and no one responded. Was he successful? Jesus himself had 5000 men plus women and children in his ministry at one time and lost all but his little intimate group with one sermon. He died alone with less than a half dozen around him. Was he successful? I agree with your thesis. Truth is truth no matter what 'most' people might say.

Jim,

I keep the last two lines of that poem up as a quote on the wall in my classroom. I am always looking for opportunities to cause my students to think a little bit deeper.

Maybe the rough times are just an indication that we have matured enough to think just a little bit deeper about our Lord. I have come to the same conclusion as you: circumstances are not a measure of how we are or are not in God.

However, I have also learned that regardless of how I abase or abound or am just stumped, I just ask, "Father, what do I need to learn here?"

He always answers. Sometimes He says, "Trust and look at this situation a little bit deeper."

If I had a sweetie mom here to do my laundry too, then maybe I wouldn't have to do it every two months :)

ps. I was a pretty cool toddler, no?
